Sun 8 Jul 2007 - Filed under: Massachusetts Travel — US Travel

The largest city in New England also happens to be the capitol of Massachusetts, Boston and it is a US travel destination full of rich culture and steep in history. In this city it doesn’t matter what your background is in history, every traveler quickly realizes that Boston played a very important role in the American Revolution, so why not highlight this as you visit. When you visit all the historic American Revolution scattered throughout the city it is hard not to realize the sacrifices made America the independence it enjoys today.

Travel BostonA great start back in time is a place that it all was destroyed, Boston Harbor. This was the site of the Boston Tea Party where many crates of the valuable tea cargo were tossed overboard in 1773. This act is viewed historically as the main trigger of the American Revolution. What immediately followed was the shutting down of the port and the passing of the Boston Port Act which would keep the port closed until the owners of the cargo was compensated.

You can now visit the Boston Tea Party Museum and find a full scale replica of one of the ships. Take a ferry ride to one of the many islands around Boston Harbor which many are part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. No longer a commercial port, you can spend a great leisurely day near the ocean and soak in the history.

When you have finished your visit at the Boston Harbor, see more historical site with a trip on the Freedom Trail. This trail is marked by a path of red bricks and runs right through downtown Boston. Dotted along this path is sixteen historical sites, all of which had a significant impact in the Revolution. You’ll see the Bunker Hill Monument, Constitution Museum, the Old North Church where the lanterns where hung to warn if the British were coming by land or by sea and many other great historical sites.

One of the other great sites a long the trail is Paul Revere House, which obviously was the homeUS Travel Massachusetts of the Paul Revere. Paul Revere no only famous for those words “The British are coming”, but also a messenger in the battles of Lexington and Concord and served as an officer during the Revolutionary War. His home is one of the most visited monuments a long the Freedom Trail.

Boston is a beautiful city but also compact in the historical center. You could easily visit all the historical sites in a single weekend and not need any extra time off. Boston would make a great US travel destination on anytime you needed a little get away time.

There are times when travel insurance is a must. It is important to understand all the terms that will be used in your policy. Some of the terms are insurance specific and not used in everyday conversation which makes it even more difficult to understand. Here are some of the more basic terms used in everyday travel insurance:

  • Travel delay: If there is a flight delay, travelers get reimbursed for hotel, food or clothing expenses. There is a limit on the amount per day you can claim.
  • Cancellation: A traveler can get reimbursed if you have to cancel a booked and paid for trip in the event of personal illness, personal injury, adverse weather, airline strikes, terrorism and other incidences. Check your specific policy for coverage.
  • Medical expenses: Reimbursement for medicines or expenses in case of a medical emergency if a traveler becomes sick during a trip.
  • Personal Accident: Travelers insurance can reimburse you for expenses due to an accident that caused a personal injury such as a broken limb.
  • Personal liability: Coverage in case you cause personal injury to someone else during a trip by accident.
  • Legal expenses: Reimbursement in case a traveler would need legal assistance or a lawyer during a trip.
  • Baggage loss: Reimburses travelers for lost, stolen or damaged personal items. There are limits and restrictions to this coverage. Check you specific policy for the amounts covered.
  • Rental car damage: Reimburses travelers for damage or loss to a rental vehicle. Check your current auto insurance to see if you are already covered. If you are not covered this will allow you to decline coverage offered by the rental car company.

Understanding some basic travel insurance terms will help you decide what coverage you will need as well as possible increasing coverage for certain items. If you are ever in doubt about coverage ask. Asking now is a lot better than finding out later.
